The mayoral chains have been handed to Councillor Pat Strack who becomes Hertsmere's Mayor for the year.
Cllr Strack takes over the role from Cllr Peter Knell and was inaugurated at the annual council meeting last night, Wednesday 16 May. The new deputy Mayor was also welcomed - Cllr Dan Griffin.
Cllr Knell raised a record-breaking amount - more than £34,000 - during his term of office for his two chosen charities - Macmillan Cancer Support and The Peace Hospice. Macmillan Cancer Support gets £25,609.43 while the Peace Hospice will receive £9116.54. Macmillan receives more due to match funding by Barclays Bank, Potters Bar.
During his year as Mayor, Cllr Knell arranged a number of fundraisers and attended more than 200 engagements. Most recently, he hosted the civic awards to reward members of the community, held a charity golf day - which raised nearly £4,700 alone - and joined a ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the Potters Bar rail crash. He has been accompanied on his duties throughout the year by his wife June.

The Marylebone Trio is coming to Rickmansworth
The Marylebone Trio which have given recitals to appreciative audiences around the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, Norway and Russia will be coming to Rickmansworth on Friday, June 15 at 8pm for a concert at the Three River Music Society, St Mary’s Church.
The Marylebone Trio is a classical woodwind trio formed in 2003 by postgraduate students at the Royal Academy of Music. Their repertoire is wide and varied, including music by Mozart and Beethoven, several gems from 20th-Century France, Britain and Eastern Europe, many of which are inspired by folk songs. The trio are constantly expanding their repertoire, and in 2009, commissioned two young British composers to fashion contemporary responses to Eastern European folksongs.
Their virtuosic programme will includeJ.S Bach - Three three-part inventions, Franz Schubert Trioin B flat major D.471 , Endre Szekely Divertimento, Jaques Ibert Cinq pièces en trio and Ludwig van Beethoven Variations on ‘La ci darem la mano’.

MP Welcome Fall In Watford Unemployment Figures
Watford MP, Richard Harrington, has welcomed today’s unemployment figures for Watford as ‘encouraging’, with a fall of 112 JSA claimants for April from March. This is a significant fall following small increases in the last 3 months.
The decrease in unemployment in the Watford constituency mirrors a national fall revealed today, with unemployment down by 45,000 over the last quarter, the second quarter to see a decrease.

Man convicted of fraud at Borehamwood bar
A 30 year old man from Borehamwood was sentenced on Thursday for running a bar in Borehamwood under a false identity.
Jason Campbell, aged 30 who lived in a “grace and favour” flat above Woods Bar in Shenley Road, appeared at Luton Crown Court on Wednesday (May 9) and two hours into the trial changed his plea to guilty. He was sentenced on Thursday (May 10) to 15 months’ imprisonment.
