ABBOTS DRUG DEALER “PAY £11,000OR GO TO JAIL”

ImageA drug dealer that My Abbots reported on a few months ago has been ordered to pay £11,000 or face eight months in prison. Matthew Bedford, 23, of Kindersley Way, was found to have around a kilo of cannabis in his room and £4,000 in cash. This was found after a search warrant was executed in March last year, with police also finding other evidence of drug dealing, including scales and a list of names.
It was the careless nature of Bedford which alerted police after the smell of cannabis was coming from his car while parked up on Woodland Way, Watford. Bedford was ordered out of the car and police found five bags of cannabis and almost £200 in cash. The 23-year-old was taken to Watford Police Station to be interviewed, but refused to make any comment. After his initial silence, he later pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis resin with intent to supply, and possession of criminal property, namely the £4,000+ found at his home. Back in September Bedford was handed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years at St Albans Crown Court. He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and given a six-month night-time curfew. The Kindersley Way resident was back at the same court last month for a confiscation hearing. At this hearing, Judge Michael Baker ordered Bedford to pay a total of £11,047. In case you missed the last issue on this story, My Abbots would like to clarify that 23-year-old Bedford is no relation to District Councillor Matthew Bedford – who also happens to live on the same road.
