Sian a Celeb For The Day

ImageA four-year-old Abbots Langley girl was mixing it with the stars last month after being invited to a celebrity filled charity event. Sian Moorcroft, who is well known to regular readers of My Abbots, suffers from Intermediate (Type II) Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), which has left her unable to walk or stand due to the weakened structure of her muscles.
She was at the star-studded event as an ambassador for the Caudwell Children charity. Mum Emma and dad Craig joined their daughter at the event, but were forbidden from taking a camera due to the number of high profile celebrities that were present. Sian was instead photographed by snappers from OK! Magazine with the likes of The Sugababes, Whitney Houston and Boyzone. Caudwell Children was founded by John Caudwell and has supported Sian for the last three years, helping to purchase a bath and wheelchair for the courageous four-year-old. The charity will also be taking the family to Florida in November. The charity helps children with life-limiting conditions to buy specialist equipment, treatments and therapy, to improve their quality of life. To date, it has donated almost £5million to help children with wheelchair needs, which has gone to more than 2000 children with over 160 medical conditions. Craig, Emma and Sian were one of 12 families chosen to represent the charity as ambassadors at the event in Battersea Park, where a total of £1.4 million was raised. Caudwell Children is the second largest supplier of specialist equipment in the country, so it would appear Sian is in good hands.
