An Abbots Langley mother recently admitted neglecting her 2-year-old son. The 22-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to cruelty to the toddler between 1 June and 15 July last year.
At the St Albans Crown Court, Defence barrister Craig Rush said: "She does not accept physically assaulting her son. Her plea has been entered on the basis of neglect. She has been diagnosed as suffering from depression." Mr Rush said the boy now lives with his father and that Social Services are aware of the position. He went on: "The defendant is receiving good parenting classes from Social Services. In the future she hopes to be reunited with her son." Judge Stephen Warner adjourned sentence for 6 weeks for pre sentence and psychiatric reports to be prepared. The judge granted the mother bail but told her: "It is a serious case. I am not making any indication as to what the final decision will be."
