BALLOON MAKES SURPRISE LANDING
ImageA family in Abbots Langley received an unexpected surprise when a hot air balloon almost landed in their back garden.
At around 8pm on Sunday, June 21, Richard Dunn, of De Havilland Way, Abbots Langley, was washing up in his kitchen when he shouted to his wife, Sasha, to come and see what was going on in the garden.
Watching TV with the rest of the family in the living room, Sasha initially expected to be greeted by her cats playing around, but was welcomed by a loud flame sound, and then saw a huge hot air balloon almost hit her pergola.
She said: “At first I was scared, but then excitement took over as its something you would never imagine happening.”
A number of residents had also seen the low flying hot air balloon approaching.
Sasha said: “I heard people in the car park area next to my house trying to get a look in, so I invited them in.
“One girl even climbed through a load of brambles to get a closer look, but ended up getting a load of cuts on her legs.”

Fortunately for Richard and Sasha, the balloon landed in the field at the back of their garden, and the Abbots resident believes there were about 15 people in the basket of the balloon.
A jeep and trailer following the 15 or so people was unable to access the field as there are a number of trenches that surrounded the area.

She said: “It got quite dark at this point so I didn’t see the people or the balloon leave, but the field they landed in was quite overgrown, so it wouldn’t have been easy to get out.”
