YOUNG SCOUT REWARDED FOR BRAVERY
ImageAn Abbots Langley youngster has been recognised by his scout group for his bravery after his mother collapsed.
Robert Marsh, now ten, was eight-years-old when his mother fell unwell at their home in The Graylings, on New Years Eve, 2007.
Robert immediately dialled 999 and comforted his younger sister, Rebecca.
He said: “I remember mum saying she felt sick so she went to the bathroom.
“A few minutes later she fainted so I called an ambulance and my grandparents to come and look after us.”
Paramedics arrived five minutes after Robert’s call and treated his mum, Marian, who was then given the all clear.
Marian’s sudden illness was a result of delayed shock after she had a fall out of her car a few days previously.
Marion said: “It was a bit embarrassing really. I was getting something from the back of the car when I tripped and fell backwards onto the concrete.
“At the time it shook me up a bit, but I seemed to be ok, but obviously a couple of days later it showed that I probably wasn’t.”
As a result of his quick thinking, Robert was presented with the Chief Scouts Commendation for Meritorious Conduct, which took place at the 5th North Watford 1st Langleybury Scout Group.
Robert was presented with his award by the County Commissioner, Rikki Harrington, he is one of six Scouts a year nationally to receive such an award.
Marian and Robert’s dad Trevor were naturally very proud of their son.
Marion said: “I couldn’t even explain to you how I felt, I was so proud of him.”
