ABBOTS MAN DIES AFTER KICK-BOXING BOUT
An Abbots Langley firefighter died last month after receiving a blow to the head in his first ever organised kick-boxing competition. Daniel Edmunds, 26, who is on Red Watch at Watford fire station, was taking part in the tour-nament in Hemel Hempstead on Sunday, Octo-ber 25. After sustaining the head injury he was taken to Watford General Hospital, before he was later transferred to the National Neurologi-cal and Neurosurgical Hospital in Central Lon-don. Daniel lost his battle and died on Tuesday, October 27, surrounded by his family. Described as a wonderful son, brother, boy-friend, uncle and friend, Daniel‟s family said he had “a wicked sense of humour and loved noth-ing more than a night out on the town with the boys – in fancy dress”. In a glowing tribute to Daniel, the following statement was released by family members: “He lived for his family and friends and would do anything to make others happy. He had a huge group of friends, and was always on his phone, talking or texting. Along with his girlfriend, Mi-chelle, Dan had already started making big plans for their future, even choosing the names of the children they would one day have together.” While not only rescuing the lives of people as a firefighter, Dan had registered to be an all organ donor, and he has been able to donate seven life-saving organs and three life-changing organs. “Dan was always there for all of us, any time of day or night. He was so sensible; he always knew what to say and do and could make everything right. Daniel Edmonds was born in Watford and grew up in Abbotts Langley. He attended Abbots Langley Junior School and Kings Langley Secon-dary School. After gaining four A‟ Levels, he went to work in Homebase before embarking on a career as a car salesman with Citroen. He joined Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Ser-vice in August 2008, and after completing the training, he moved to Red Watch at Watford in January 2009. Dan leaves behind his mum, Sally Fillary; father Alan Edmonds, girlfriend Michelle Noble and her parents Jacqueline and Joe Noble; Sis-ter, brother-in-law and nephews Michelle, Dean, Alfie and Louis Mayhew and his 18 month old Labrador, Dudley. Chief Fire Officer Roy Wilsher said: “We are absolutely devastated by the loss of our friend and colleague, Daniel Edmonds. “The Fire Service is like an extended family and we have all lost a member of that family.” Dan‟s funeral took place last week on Wednes-day, November 4, at St Lawrence Church, Ab-botts Langley. If anyone wishes to make a dona-tion they can be made to the Firefighters Charity.
