ABBOTS COUPLE PLAN 1,000 MILE MOTORBIKE RIDE
ImageAn Abbots Langley couple, Don and Sylvia Guy are planning a charity motorbike ride from John O'Groats to Land's End. Don (64), a vintage motorcycle enthusiast is planning to celebrate the 70th birthday of his 1938 Rudge Ulster by riding the 1000 miles Top2Toe to raise funds for the NSPCC.
This will be the second time the bike has made the trip. Some fifteen years ago the previous owner rode from Land's End to John O'Groats, and now Don wants to make the return journey. The couple will be leaving John O'Groats on Thursday, 5th June, and they hope to cover around 200 miles each day to reach Land's End on Monday, 9th June. Don will be riding the motorbike and Sylvia (63) will follow in their campervan to act as his backup and support crew. BikeLug (www.bikelug.co.uk) a trailer company based in Lancashire, have already agreed to sponsor them with the loan of a collapsible motorbike trailer. This is really good news as it means that Sylvia will not have the problem of towing an empty trailer the whole way to Land's End. The aim is to cover the entire journey without using any motorways, and they will be staying at campsites along the way. Their route will take them from the highlands of Scotland via Glencoe to Edinburgh, then west into the Lake District. From there they will head south along the Welsh borders through Devon and finally into Cornwall and Land's End. Just to emphasise the feat, the journey is 1000 miles - £1 per mile for the NSPCC. £10 in total for sponsorship ! You know it makes sense.Don and Sylvia have set up a web journal at http://top2toe.wordpress.comwhere you can find out more about their planned trip. If you would like to sponsor them in their efforts you can do so via www.justgiving.co.uk/rudgeride.
