ABBOTS TENNIS STAR ELLIOTT
ImageAbbots Langley tennis star Amanda Elliott got off to the perfect start in 2008 after winning the first woman’s British tour title in Birmingham last month. The 18-year-old player beat Olivia Scarfi of South Wales 6-0 7-6 in the tournament’s final having breezed past Dorset’s Michelle Farley 6-1 6-1 in the quarter-finals, before defeating Jessica Ren 6-1 7-5 in the semi-finals.
Amanda was the number one seed for the tournament and justified her ranking by not dropping a single set during her run to the title. Amanda currently has a world ranking of 640 and like many young British juniors, uses the British Tour as a stepping stone to the professional game. The tour takes place throughout the year with 20 tournaments taking place up and down the country, with a Masters competition finishing off the year which consists of the top 24 ranked men and women. To move up the rankings, Amanda must gain points from the tour’s tournaments throughout the year. The next competition you are likely to see her compete in is at the Sheffield Graves Tennis Club, where the final was due to take place on the 9th February.
