A local bus service which runs between Abbots and Watford has been saved after it was due to be terminated at the start of February. The 318 Metroline service, along with the company’s 346 service which runs between Garston and Watford, has now been saved after a deal was struck between bus company Mullany’s Coaches, Hertfordshire County Council, Three Rivers District Council and Watford Borough Council at a meeting on Friday January 16.
Abbots Langley’s youngest celebrity was treated to a trip of a lifetime just before Christmas after a visit to Disney World. Five-year-old Sian Moorcroft, of Kindersley Way, joined around 40 other youngsters and their families in making the trip to Florida with parents Emma and Craig through the charity Caudwell Children. The charity organise and fund the ‘Destination Dreams’ trip, which is for youngsters fighting life threatening illnesses.
An Abbots Langley mother was arrested for drink driving after admitting being under the influence to an off-duty police officer. Mother of three Cara Featherstone, 23, of Broomfield Rise, had just paid for her fuel at the Total petrol station on Old Mill Road, Kings Langley when she fell into the off-duty officer and said: “Sorry, I’ve had a few drinks.”
Abbots Langley Parish Council has raised its council tax precept by around seven per cent on last year after it agreed a sum of £546,000 for the upcoming financial year. The agreed amount will mean that owners of a typical Band E property in the village will pay £66.80 towards their overall tax bill per year.
Figures released last week by Abbots Langley police have revealed that crime in the village has gone down. At the first parish council meeting of 2009, Sergeant Neil Canning revealed the figures to members of the council, with the only downside seeing crime in Langleybury marginally up.
