Figures released last week by Abbots Langley police have revealed that crime in the village has gone down. At the first parish council meeting of 2009, Sergeant Neil Canning revealed the figures to members of the council, with the only downside seeing crime in Langleybury marginally up.
Overall, crime in Abbots for the year 2007/2008 fell by nine percent, with levels in Leavesden dropping 20%, a marginal drop in Bedmond, but a two per cent rise in Langleybury. There was a reduction in the amount of car crime which took place in the area, with levels dropping 11% in Abbots, 26% in Leavesden and 12.5% in Bedmond. Sadly, once again, it was Langleybury which let the local area down, with car crime up 10% on the previous year. One prolific car thief was caught outside Parmiter’s School recently after he tried to steal a car while an 11-a-side football tournament was going on at the school. Parents spotted him trying to steal the vehicle and managed to alert police in time. The one statistic that is slightly concerning is the number or burglaries in Abbots, with the number going up nine to 13. Three prolific burglars were caught during this period, and between them, have around 100 offences. Another burglar was also caught, but he was sentenced to a lenient six weeks in prison. In other news from Abbots Police, PCSO Dean Board has left his position and is currently moving into the role of Police Constable. He is yet to be stationed, and it is hoped that he will return to Abbots at some point. Police Constable Ryan O’Connell has also left his role as PC, taking a career break for one year.
