An Abbots Langley mother was arrested for drink driving after admitting being under the influence to an off-duty police officer. Mother of three Cara Featherstone, 23, of Broomfield Rise, had just paid for her fuel at the Total petrol station on Old Mill Road, Kings Langley when she fell into the off-duty officer and said: “Sorry, I’ve had a few drinks.”
When the man made her aware that he was a police officer she tried to make light of the situation by claiming she was joking. The officer could smell the alcohol on her breath and called for uniformed police officers to attend the scene. Despite trying to drive off, the off-duty officer held the defendant’s door open until officers arrived. When they took a breath test, they found that she was nearly twice the legal limit. Featherstone pleaded guilty to drink driving earlier this month and was given a 17 month driving ban. She was also ordered to pay £210 in fines and costs.
