ABBOTS FAMILY PRAISE WATFORD & HEMEL HOSPITALS |
An Abbots resident has praised two local hospitals for their care and kindness after both her daughter and mother were taken ill. Julie Dibble, of Helston Place, leapt to the defence of both Watford General Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital due to the support both offered to her and her family following the two illnesses.
Daughter Charlotte, 11, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the beginning of April this year after she was admitted to Watford General feeling unwell. Julie told My Abbots: “Charlotte had been feeling unwell for months, but this came as a real shock to us as we had not expected this outcome.” Charlotte was taken to the Starfish Ward at the Watford hospital and both her and her family received very helpful care and support during this difficult time. Julie added: “This condition takes a lot of getting used to. While Charlotte was in hospital, staff made her feel relaxed and we were given full support and assistance to continue her insulin regime at home.” Julie also told My Abbots that the aftercare has been of the highest standard since her daughter left hospital. Appointments have been arranged, as well as appointments at the hospital and a very helpful diabetes nurse has been on hand when the family have needed any help or advice. Charlotte now has to act as a responsible adult at the age of 11, ensuring she carries her medicine around with her, giving herself four injections everyday. She must rely on good friends in and outside of her school, but according to mum Julie, “must be treated like any other 11-year-old who can achieve anything that others her age can.” Charlotte’s discovery that she had diabetes has not been helped by the recent passing of her grandmother – Julie’s mother. She was admitted to hospital with Pneumonia after suffering from Emphysema for the last 12 years. Sadly, after spending four nights at Hemel Hempstead Hospital, she lost her fight against the illness and passed away. Julie told My Abbots: “The hospital staff there gave her the respect and dignity she deserved at her time of need. With the help and assistance of the staff her last wishes were granted.” Julie finally added that without the help and support of the two hospitals it would have been an even tougher time for her family. She wished to thank both for their kind and caring approach, and also wanted to thank the friends and relatives who have helped the family over the last few months.
