The 26th Annual Abbots Langley Carnival was one of the best attended in its history as people flocked to the village to enjoy the festivities. The event is arguably the biggest in Abbots Langley’s calendar, attracting people from all over South West Hertfordshire.
The event all kicked off around midday when the assembled crowds lined the streets to watch the parade of colourful, imaginative floats with a number of themes, led around the village by a brass band. Crowds then started to make there way into the Manor House Grounds on Gallows Hill to enjoy the rides, stalls and live music put on for the day. Performances from local artists Navaro and Ross O’Reilly were backed up by a DJ on stage and local youngsters showing off their talents. There was plenty for the kids: .numerous stalls offering prizes and sweets; a bouncy castle; a football tournament featuring local teams. Comedy circus duo The Wacky Tumblers wowed the crowds by spinning plates skilfully on tall wands and demonstrated trampoline acrobatics. The Training Ship Broad Sword Marching Band were also on show at the event, playing throughout the day. The event as a whole was a great success, and even the weather managed to shed some sunshine on the proceedings. MP Claire Ward was among the thousands of visitors to this year's Abbots Langley carnival. Ms Ward spent a good two hours touring the stalls, buying raffle tickets and chatting to local residents. The MP fully entered into the spirit of the event on the 'hook a duck' stall and won a blow up Dolphin for her daughter Ruby. Claire told My Abbots: "The carnival is a real community event and each year it seems to attract more and more visitors. It was a brilliant day out and I enjoyed it immensely." Lindsay Flood, of Garston, told My Abbots that this was the fifth year running that she had attended the event, and it was getting better every time. She said: “More and more people are turning up for the carnival, which is great for a small village like Abbots. The entertainment is getting better and it’s great that the weather stayed clear for everyone.” Frances Newman, who is Club President for the organiser of the Carnival – The Watford Lions, was delighted with how the Carnival had gone and was pleased that the weather had held out for everyone. She told My Abbots: “It went very well and we’ve already heard back from stall holders to tell us it was a very profitable day. Everyone enjoyed themselves which is the main thing and I didn’t receive any complaints at all.” For the first time, My Abbots had its own stall at the event, and we were delighted with the response we received from people who came up to us and said hello.
For those who did come up to our stall will know that we had a raffle going on throughout the day, and we are pleased to announce that the winners are as follows:
