A local resident has praised the work of a park ranger who has helped to maintain Leavesden Country Park. Martin Brooks, a native Englishman who has spent most of his life in America, was tasked with looking after Leavesdon Park both North and South when he took on the role six months ago.
His work has certainly not gone unnoticed, and one local resident, Mark Palman, has praised the work he has carried out so far. Those who frequent the two areas will have seen the improvements at this the growing season. Teams of individuals under Martin’s supervision have tended to the vast number of trees on the South side and have done long awaited clearing of the growth areas. Dog walkers have been catered for with the placement of new waist bins to ensure the park is kept clean. Mark told My Abbots News: “I was told that the tarmac road will soon be looked at with a cycle path. This will really make it look very nice.” On the North side, the large clear up around the car park has opened up the whole area, giving a much better visual outlook. This helps to combat any intentional vandalism to the cars parked there. Additional new lights are being installed which will aid in illuminating the car park. The new circular path just created is a big help to those with wheel chairs and pushchairs alike, giving a nice walk and easy access to the YMCA and children’s play area. Mark added: “It is good to see many more individuals of all ages using the new exercise equipment recently installed. Perhaps those who tried to damage it have also seen its’ advantages too! Martin informed me that the Public Footpath at the bottom of the park was being improved, and I was pleased to see that this has also been done with new gating installed to give ease of access here. Have you seen the carved Totem Pole? A master has carved a stunning piece of work in one of the open areas in the Wildlife Area. My thanks go out to Three Rivers for giving Martin a chance to make some real improvements to such an integral location within the community. I hope it continues as I and many others see the funds allocated going to good use.”
