Watford ended Swansea City's 16 game unbeaten run after a comfortable win at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night.
Goals from Tamas Priskin and Tommy Smith handed the Hornets a comfortable 2-0 win over Roberto Martinez's side, who came into the game on the back of some impressive performances.
Watford were by far the better side throughout, with Scott Loach rarely tested in the Hornets goal. Brendan Rodgers’ side looked dangerous on the counter-attack, and broke the deadlock on 23 minutes when Watford broke from their own box after Swansea were wrongly awarded a corner.
The decision was given against Adrian Mariappa, but Watford managed to clear and charge up the other end. The ball found its way to Tommy Smith, who crossed from the left to find Priskin, who side-footed home for his 7th league goal of the season.
Ten minutes later, Watford went 2-0 up when Smith crashed home from 20 yards after Don Cowie's effort was saved by Swans keeper Dorus de Vries.
Watford threatened further in the second half, but couldn’t add to their two goal advantage despite dominating the play. Tommy Smith scuffed an effort wide from a Priskin cross, while Jobi McAnuff shot straight at the keeper after cutting in from the left-hand side.
Overall, it was a very promising performance from the Hornets, who lifted themselves out of the relegation zone following their victory. With games in hand on some of the teams above them and with the team improving every game under manager Brendan Rodgers, there is no reason why Watford should not climb the table even further.
